CURRICULUM

MISJ is authorised to offer IB’s PYP, MYP and IBDP programmes (see http://www.ibo.org/en/school/003291), providing all our students with a globally-recognised, reassuringly independent, and seamless route to success – both in and out of the classroom.

PRESCHOOL

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential.
Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances.A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.We have combined the positive points of different methods and defined it as a Developmental Curriculum.
Firstly, we have structured our classroom with different learning areas where children can work individually or with a partner. We patterned it from the different Montessori areas. Secondly, we are using Montessori Method in teaching the concepts or skills to the children. Thirdly, we are using Brigance Assessment, an American developmental tool that is used to identify the child’s strengths and weakness in language, motor, self-emotional and cognitive skills.

Primary School (Grade 1-5)

MISJ Elementary uses a two-stream approach to curricula. The National Curriculum of Indonesia is utilized in conjunction with the IBO’s Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Our curriculum framework and teaching methodology is developed to meet the needs of children in the primary years of schooling. It is designed to foster the development of whole child by teaching and learning across multiple academic subjects.

MISJ emphasizes learning through active inquiry and aims to developthe whole child to meet the competencies and attitudes outlined in the Learner profile developing International minded students.
Our teachers follow and combine the best practices from national system with a wealth and knowledge of experience from international schools; they employ a variety of teaching methods to achieve our teaching objectives.

Mentari Intercultural School Jakarta (MISJ) also applies the Indonesian national curriculum 2013 accross grade levels. Our school successfully combines IB PYP and the Indonesian national curriculum. MISJ integrates the two curricula to develop students’ potential and to build Indonesian citizens with global perspectives.

Junior Highschool (GRADE 6-10)

The IBO’s Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills for students aged 11-16 years. The five-year programme offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional school subjects. It follows naturally the Primary Years Programme and serves as excellent preparation for the Diploma Programme.
The MYP, like the other two programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organization, is based on the premise that education can foster understanding among young people around the world. Intercultural awareness is central to the programme, to enable future generations to live more peacefully and productively than we do today.

In MISJ, valuable attention is given to academic excellence. As a counterpart, the Afterschool and Interest Club Programs aim to achieve a similar end – honoring the gifted capabilities of students in their chosen fields. Our students are provided opportunities outside the confines of conventional classroom instruction, and engage in diverse co-curricular programs that foster the skills and values necessary for their growth. As IB Learners, these programs are designed to jumpstart their curiosity and open-mindedness, as well as fuel their passion to discover themselves.

The MISJ After-School and Interest Clubs aim to develop a sense of responsibility, discipline, and foster cooperation. It provides diverse activities and eventually seeks out opportunities to share this newfound knowledge within, and outside school. All our programs are designed to maximize socialization, while developing creativity, and talents. As the students continue to participate, we hope that members are affirmed and empowered enough so as they improve on their leadership potential. We pride ourselves in challenging our students to do differentiated work using the skills they have acquired. In the end, we hope to contribute in developing among our students, a positive attitude towards life in general, while promoting core values such as honesty, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
