Mentari Grand Surya Junior High uses the Cambridge Junior Secondary Curriculum enriched with the revised National Curriculum of Indonesia. It is competency based program where learning is focused on developing and providing skills and knowledge that will enable the individual to survive in a changing, challenging, unpredictable, and complicated world.







Cambridge Int'l Curriculum



Students in Grade 7 & 8 follow the Secondary One programme. Cambridge Secondary 1 is typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years. It develops skills and understanding in English, English as a Second Language, Mathematics and Science. Appropriate and relevant internationally, Cambridge Secondary 1 has been designed to be culturally sensitive. It also engages learners in an active and creative learning journey. Cambridge Secondary 1 provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Secondary 2. Students sit their Secondary 1 Checkpoint at the end of Grade 8. It is a diagnostic test that helps learners by giving comprehensive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in each subject area. The tests are marked in Cambridge and each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic report. Students in Grade 9 study the first year of the IGCSE programme. Cambridge Secondary 2 builds on the foundation of Cambridge Secondary 1 and is typically for learners aged 14 to 16 years. Students sit their IGCSE at the end of grade 10. The Cambridge IGCSE is the world's most popular international qualifications for 14 to 16 years old. It helps improve performance by developing skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving. Students do not only get knowledge but they also learn to analyse it, to apply it in given situations and to evaluate their results. Cambridge also takes into account differing abilities by offering Core and Extended curriculum papers in some subjects. The Core curriculum is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject and is targeted at students expected to achieve grades C to G. The extended curriculum has been designed for the more academically able. It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E.



Indonesian National Curriculum



The subjects Civics (PPKn), Bahasa Indonesia dan Sastra, P.E. and Religion are taught in Bahasa Indonesia. IPA and Matematika courses are added to start preparing the students for the National Examination at the end of Grade 9. As the students reach Grade 9, the Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum is introduced. It is a two-year program in preparation for the international curriculum for the Senior High School.
